My Thermomix Story

October 4th, 2010 Author: Lily Chan

My name is Lily Chan I came from Taiwan, my husband is German, my grandma is Japanese, so I do enjoy multi culture meals since I was kid in my family. I should have retired few years ago, but after finding Thermomix I have been enjoying happy cooking every day , so exciting to share with others for easy & healthy cooking. Using Thermomix to serve my husband is really a bonus, he likes Mashed Potatoes, Rye Bread, Pumpkin Soup, Chowder & any kind of Creamy soup, then he will request Ice Cream every night after meals, he gave up to go to Metro Town to have C$ 4.5 for 2 scoops Italian ice Cream after I bought Thermomix , because I could use that making more than 1.5 liter of any favorite & low fat ice Cream in 1 minute at home. All in one pot + 23 functions in one make it so easy, clean & saving time for cooking.

My parents live down stairs, they both are over 82, so every 2nd day I make either Soya Milk, or Almond Milk, or Brown Rice Milk & Japanese Red Bean Steam Buns for them, each milk takes me total less than 15 minutes to cook & grind in same pot, that makes 2 seniors very happy & nutrition food. I even make my own Western bread, Dumpling, Noodles, Chinese Steam Bun, Cakes, Meat/shrimp & fish balls in few minutes, trust me all of this home work is half the time of traditional cooking for sure.

I will say, Thermomix really makes me happy in my retired life, all my 30 years of collecting multi culture recipes, I started to transfer it to my
Thermomix cooking, I am also writing my own Thermomix recipes over 120 recipes already, hope finish the pictures shooting then I will publish to share with my friends &
Thermomix customers.

For your information, I have 2 grandsons, Thermomix was the best gift to my Daughter in-law, before she did not have much time to cook, but now she uses
Thermomix to make meals for kids & whole family, she even asked me to share with her more of my new recipes.

If this machine could have been imported to Canada earlier, It will have benefited more people to cook easier. I am very proud of Thermomix that is like a Mercedes for a woman in the kitchen, I will give my daughter one for a wedding gift sooner or later too, because she loves cooking also.

My Vegan Love Affair With My Thermomix

My Vegan Love Affair With My Thermomix

I was 5 years old and I found out what meat was. I decided that I would not eat meat anymore because I didn’t want to have anything to do with the killing of animals. My parents were very upset with me and forced me to eat meat. However, by the time I was ten, I was diagnosed as anorexic. My doctor told my mom to try letting me vegetarian because maybe I would start eating. I started eating right away and have been eating ever since.

I love my Thermomix! I use it just about every day. By the age of ten, I knew how to prepare full meals and I was responsible for cooking for myself most of the time. It was a fair arrangement because otherwise my mom would have had to cook two different meals. I ate the salad that she prepared every night and any vegetarian sides, such as a baked potato and I made my main course. That was in the 70′s and it wasn’t as easy to be vegetarian back then as it is now. There wasn’t the variety of frozen dinners, pre-packaged foods, and mock meats that we have today. I ate a lot of beans and rice and pasta.

By the time I got to University there were a few more options and I became a junk food
vegetarian. Besides the frozen dinners, I lived on Mac and cheese and pizza. By the time I graduated, I crave more wholesome food and started cooking more. I liked to cook but found it very time consuming for my busy schedule, so, I still dined out a lot.

About 20 years ago, I decided to go vegan. I started cooking more but still ate out around 3 time a week. There were a lot move veggie options in restaurants by then. Once I met my husband Bill, that changed. He was vegetarian and once we moved in we settled into a routine where I did most of the cooking and he did most of the clean up. I enjoyed cooking more than before because I had someone to share a meal with. However, I still had a hectic schedule and we still ate out at least once a week.

It's like having a little chef all of your own

I have just been seduced by the World’s Littlest Chef.

Ever fantasized about having your own personal sous chef in your home kitchen? The Thermomix, known as “the most advanced kitchen appliance on the market today” as well as “the World’s Littlest Chef,” is just the thing for you.

Kalayra Angelyys beside her Thermomix and some of its creations.
I recently attended a demonstration at local sales consultant Kalayra Angelyys’ home and was absolutely stunned and amazed at all this appliance can do.

Although some may see it as a tad pricey ($1,600), the Thermomix combines over 10 appliances, is incredibly engineered and is a major space saver. Functions include: chopping, beating, mixing, whipping, grinding, kneading, mincing, grating, juicing, blending, heating, stirring, steaming and weighing food.

Basically you can forget buying a food processer, steamer, rice cooker, juicer, blender, scale, crock-pot, mixer—this ‘little chef’ can cook, sauté and stir.

So, for example, it can make risotto all by itself. It also makes ice cream, churns butter, grinds spices, makes dough and can make flour out of dried chickpeas in no time.

I also love the fact that you don’t need measuring cups and spoons—the built-in scale weighs as you add ingredients. As the website will tell you: “Thermomix began when a mother in Germany wanted to make her own baby food for her new child, but current appliances were not able to achieve this. She dreamed of a machine that could grind food into small enough pieces for her child to eat and cook at the same time, and so was born the idea of the Thermomix.”

It is so easy to use making it a Godsend for busy people who are “kitchen challenged.”

I watched Kalayra make a pumpkin soup. The Thermomix first chopped the onion, then with the addition of butter, it sautéed it. She then added the pumpkin, set the timer and it first cooked it and then with the push of a button pureed it—voila soup.

After serving, she added soap and water—and yes folks, this helpful appliance also cleans itself.

Kalayra says that celebrated chef Rod Butters at Raudz loves his Thermomix and finds it an extra pair of hands in his bustling kitchen.

It’s not hard to believe how popular this machine is in Europe. It is actually known as one of the top choices for a wedding gift.
